In this dynamic role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to small business owners, guiding participants through the development of actionable growth strategies while connecting them with valuable business resources, industry experts, and capital opportunities. Working alongside faculty and community partners, you will play a vital role in creating an engaging learning environment that empowers entrepreneurs to achieve measurable business success.
What You'll Do
As a Business Advisor, you will:
- Provide one-on-one coaching and business advising to program participants, helping them develop and refine strategic Growth Plans.
- Build strong relationships with entrepreneurs throughout the program and facilitate their transition to long-term business support resources.
- Support participant recruitment by assisting with application reviews and admissions.
- Develop participant profiles and identify individual business needs to customize advising strategies.
- Plan and manage advising schedules to ensure participants receive timely guidance and support.
- Collaborate with faculty by supporting classroom instruction, coordinating group activities, and enhancing participant engagement.
- Attend all program modules, clinics, workshops, and special events to reinforce participant learning.
- Help participants apply classroom concepts directly to their businesses through practical coaching and problem-solving.
- Connect participants with local business support organizations, mentors, and capital resources.
- Assist participants in identifying, collecting, and analyzing key business metrics to measure growth and improve performance.
- Foster strong partnerships within the entrepreneurial ecosystem to enhance program outcomes and community engagement.
- Participate in professional development and training focused on business advising, peer learning, and entrepreneurship.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Entrepreneurship, Sales, or a closely related field and seven (7) years of successful experience providing business advising to small business clients;
OR
- Master's degree in Business, Entrepreneurship, Sales, or a closely related field and three (3) years of successful experience providing business advising to small business clients.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience advising entrepreneurs and small business owners through various stages of business growth.
- Ability to assess business operations, identify opportunities, and develop practical growth strategies.
- Knowledge of entrepreneurship, business planning, financial metrics, and business development practices.
- Strong understanding of performance measurement, data analysis, and quality assurance.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, community partners, and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience connecting businesses with community resources, technical assistance providers, and capital opportunities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High ethical standards, professionalism, and commitment to participant success.
- Ability to effectively support adult learners in both classroom and one-on-one coaching environments.
- Commitment to fostering economic growth, job creation, and revenue generation for small businesses.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as program needs require.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment with students, faculty, staff, community partners, and business owners.
